The exterior of homes are referred to as “shells” or “envelopes” by the builders. The expenditure of energy can be reduced by the proper built of the “shell” for preventing infiltration of air, which is the leaking of air inside your home from outside as well as exfiltration of house, which is leaking of air from your home to outside. The leaks have to be tested properly to make the house energy efficient. There is a common test, which is known as the test of blower door. For this test, a fan that is mounted on a frame and portable has to be sealed in a doorway that is in the exterior side of the house. The vent fans of the bathroom, the flue of the fireplace, furnace and all other openings should be sealed temporarily for this test. The technicians will be able to detect the leaks in then house with the help of the smoke pencils. These areas have to be taken care of in order to make your house energy efficient.
Energy holds critical place in today’s world because the natural resources are getting depleted day by day at a rapid rate. So it should be our main concern to protect these natural resources from becoming scarce by improving the energy efficiency of the home. During winter season close all doors and windows tightly so that cold air does not come inside and you can save considerably on the heater energy. Any gaps or cracks in the walls or the floor must be filled so that there is no exchange of air between the climate outside and inside the home.
